I was first introduced to Mud House Wines by accidentally stumbling across their cellar door on a trip to Marlborough. The plan was to grab a bottle of wine from a cellar door in Waipara and head up to Kaikoura, park the campervan for the night and gorge on local seafood. With a newly acquired bottle of delicious, crisp Mud House Sauvignon Blanc and a giant, freshly cooked crayfish in hand, I sat on the rocks by the water to watch the sunset on a warm summer’s night. In that moment, I fell in love with New Zealand, Mud House wines and all things Sauvignon Blanc.
When the founders of Mud House Wines arrived in Marlborough twenty years ago, they fell in love with the landscape. After preparing the land for planting the vineyard, they built a house to live in, made from the earth. This is where the name ‘Mud House’ comes from.
Over the past two decades, the team at Mud House have established themselves as a leading producer of wines in Marlborough, Waiparaand Central Otago, with their main focus being a range that showcases the best varietals of those regions. They pride themselves on making beautiful, consistent wines for people that seek new experiences and thrive on a sense of adventure.
Awarded ‘Best Buy’ in this year’s Cuisine Magazine’s Sauvignon Blanc Tasting Panel (Cuisine Magazine, January 2018 Issue 186), the Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2017 displays bright aromas of guava, lemon and snow pea. The palate is full of juicy tropical fruits, melon and citrus flavours. The crisp grapefruit-like acidity extends the palate to a long mouth-watering finish. A beautiful, elegant example of a Marlborough savvy that is completely moreish! The perfect wine that will match well with goat’s cheese or a piece of grilled salmon with asparagus and seasonal vegetables.
This is clearly a tasty wine at a fantastic price of $95.94 a 6 pack. Celebrate all things Sauvignon Blanc and sunny Winter Saturdays with this delicious drop!
Let's face it, life would be easier if we had more wines like this!
