Developing nose showing plum and some raisin characters, with tobacco and bay leaf complexity. There's definitely some age here on the palate with more savoury, leathery tones, but plenty of layers and great tannin structure keep it going through to the lingering finish. Recommended.

'65% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot and 5% each of malbec and shiraz; the vinification is in the usual McHenry Hohnen template, with whole berry, partial wild yeast ferment in a stone vat, basket-pressed, no additions other than minimal SO2. Deeply coloured, it has a medium to full-bodied palate replete with blackcurrant, redcurrant, black olive and bay leaf flavours within a mesh of fine-grained tannins.' 95 points, James Halliday's Wine Companion

Located in Western Australia. The principal grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Shiraz, Merlot, Chenin Blanc and Verdelho. The Margaret River is recognized as one of the best Bordeaux-like regions outside of France and produces wines in a very unique European style, much different than the rest of Australia.
